From My Heart:

I love many things. Spring. Laughter. Good friends. Family. Colorado.

Most of all, I love God . . . and His Word, His love letter to us.

Several years ago, I was challenged to come up with a personal mission statement, and I started by looking at what I’m passionate about. Besides hubby and my children.

What drove me to do the things I do? Write. Speak. Teach. (Yes, there’s a difference!) Read/review books. Books.

The written word definitely is high on the list. Just take a look at all the bookshelves loaded with books in my house.

But as I thought about it, the overriding force behind all this is God. And His Word.

So my mission statement states that I exist to share with others my passion for God and His Word, both written and physical (Jesus Christ), to encourage believers to pursue Christlikeness through Bible study, prayer, and a full surrender to Him.

For the last five years, a group of ladies in Denver and I meet bimonthly to pray and encourage one another in the call the Lord has placed on us—individually as well as a group. Over the summer we took time to be mirrors for each other, to talk about what we see when we look at another. And what they said about me was both humbling and energizing.

At the same time, in planning this website and knowing I had contracts for both nonfiction and fiction book, I needed a tagline. A brand that covered the topics the Lord has placed on me to write. Grace. Surrender. Obedience. Trust. God-confidence. And it needed to be short.

At first I was skeptical of what these dear friends told me. And I wanted to dismiss it as their prejudice because they were my friends. But then as I told my hubby and other trusted family members and friends what they’d said, I was amazed and humbled when they confirmed it. These were things I’ve prayed for over the years, but still feel I’m lacking in so many ways.

They said what they saw was a woman of strong faith, deeply rooted in the Word of God, giving wise, godly advice, and laying foundations for others to come behind and build on. Wow!

When I was a young wife and mother, I remember my brother asking me one time who I wanted be like as I grew spiritually. I said our mother—Mom always had a scripture verse or principle to give in any given situation, whether she was counseling someone, correcting her children, or giving a testimony of what the Lord was doing in her life at the time. I wanted to be that woman, too.

And now it seems I am—at least some of the time. I truly hadn’t seen it. Of course I’m not perfect, nor will I be until I get to heaven, but with this revelation, I finally saw the purpose for which the Lord created me. The verses He gave me for my writing, speaking, and editing ministries five years ago gained even clearer meaning, and they are behind the tagline on this website and on the back covers of the books I have written and will write: Discovering Foundations of Truth.

Isaiah 58:11–12 (NASB) “And the Lord will continually guide you, and satisfy your desire in scorched places, and give strength to your bones; and you will be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water whose waters do not fail. Those from among you will rebuild the ancient ruins; you will raise up the age-old foundations; and you will be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of the streets in which to dwell.”
